GRAMMAR: PAST SIMPLE

This is a review of the Past Simple tense, take a look!

We use the past simple to talk about an event which happened at some point in time in the past.
Two examples:
Tom flew to Chicago last week.
Peter visited his friends in Florida two months ago.

Past Simple Structure:


Affirmative

Subject + Verb -ed OR Irregular Past Form + Objects

*Regular Verb: You played golf yesterday afternoon.
*Irregular Verb: She read a book last week.

Negative

Subject + did not (didn't) + Verb (base form) + Objects

You didn't play golf yesterday afternoon.
She didn't read a book last week.

Questions

Did she read a book last week?

Past Perfect Structure:


Affirmative

Read the following text and tick the sentences T (true) or F (false). [5 x 4 = 20 points]

Do you like spending time in nature? Do you like sleeping outside? Then maybe you’ve heard of Ray Mears.

Ray Mears was a famous TV presenter. He presented programmes about survival skills. He was the presenter of Ray Mears’ World of Survival in 1993. People loved watching his TV programme. They watched him how to build a “tent” from snow, find food in a forest and find his way in the jungle.

Mears was born in England. By the time he was 16, he knew how to make a tent from leaves and trees, and to light a fire. He taught people how to use the things in nature so they can survive in forests, deserts and jungles, too.
